Service Description: This web service represents the Homeland Infrastructure Foundation Level Database (HIFLD) Electric Transmission Lines, version 9/19/2019. These data were downloaded from http://hifld-geoplatform.opendata.arcgis.com by the MARCO Portal, then clipped to include the following: Connecticut, District of Columbia, Delaware, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, and Vermont.
Transmission Lines:
This feature class/shapefile represents electric power transmission lines. Transmission Lines are the system of structures, wires, insulators and associated hardware that carry electric energy from one point to another in an electric power system. Lines are operated at relatively high voltages varying from 69 kV up to 765 kV, and are capable of transmitting large quantities of electricity over long distances. Underground transmission lines are included where sources were available. HIFLD GIS data version: 9/19/19.

Comments: This web service represents the Homeland Infrastructure Foundation Level Database (HIFLD) GIS data: Electric Substations and Electric Transmission Lines, versions 9/19/2019. These data were downloaded from http://hifld-geoplatform.opendata.arcgis.com by CRSSA, Rutgers University, and prepared for visualization purposes on the MARCO Portal. HIFLD Electric Substations: These data represent electric power substations primarily associated with electric power transmission. In this layer, substations are considered facilities and equipment that switch, transform, or regulate electric power at voltages equal to, or greater than, 69 kilovolts. Substations with a maximum operating voltage less than 69 kilovolts may be included, depending on the availability of authoritative sources, but coverage of these features should not be considered complete. The Substations feature class/shapefile includes taps, a location where power on a transmission line is tapped by another transmission line. HIFLD data version: 9/19/19.
HIFLD data version: 9/19/19.
NOTE: The substations and transmission lines data were clipped by state boundaries from Maine to the Virginia-North Carolina border. The states are as follows: Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia. Update 4/2/2020: Vermont was added to the dataset.
