Service Description: On Nov. 16, 2022, BOEM announced eight draft Wind Energy Areas (WEAs) in the Central Atlantic for public review and comment. The draft WEAs are in federal waters offshore North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland and Delaware. They cover approximately 1.7 million acres. Their closest points range from approximately 19 to 77 nautical miles off the Central Atlantic coast.
This Draft Wind Energy Area (WEA) notice (the notice) invites public comment on the Draft WEAs on the OCS offshore the U.S. Central Atlantic coast. BOEM will consider information received in response to this notice to identify Final WEAs as part of the Area Identification (Area ID) process. Those interested in providing comments and information regarding site conditions, resources, and multiple uses in close proximity to or within the Draft WEAs should provide the information requested in section 8, “Requested Information from Interested or Affected Parties.” BOEM may or may not offer a lease for a commercial offshore wind energy project within the Draft WEAs after further government consultations, public participation, and environmental analyses.
Submit your comments on the Draft WEAs no later than 11:59 pm ET on Dec. 16, 2022. Late submissions may not be considered.
