Description: This shapefile represents major canyons of the Mid-Atlantic Coast. Approximate boundaries were heads-up digitized over a raster bathymetry layer. Canyon names come primarily from NOAA charts, NOS bathymetric maps and the GEONet Names Server. These boundaries were created primarily for cartographic purposes and in no way represent ecological boundaries.Updated in March, 2020 to more closely match Lautenberg Deep Sea Coral Protection Area where appropriate, and also to better match high resolution NCEI multibeam bathymetry.
