These data represent areas that are permanently or temporarily withdrawn from oil, gas, renewable, critical mineral, or sand leasing or some combination of these by various authorities, including the Gulf of Mexico Security Act of 2006, presidential withdrawals under Sec. 12 of the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act, 43 U.S.C. Sec. 1341, or the National Marine Sanctuaries Act, 16 U.S.C. Sec. 1431-1434, 33 U.S.C. 1401 et seq. Additionally, some marine national monuments within the area under BOEM's leasing authority include language that restricts certain types of leases.
