Service Description: This web service represents the US Coast Guard's proposed areas (anchorages) and study sites (PARS) in the mid-Atlantic region, and was published in support of the Mid-Atlantic Ocean Data Portal. The USCG areas were generated using XY latitude/longitude coordinates supplied by the US Coast Guard. The coordinates represent area corners; these points were then used to produce polygonal areas.

1. USCG Proposed Delaware Bay Anchorages
This layer contains the outline of three proposed anchorage grounds in the area of Delaware Bay.
Anchorage B – Breakwater is notionally located in the Delaware Bay beginning approximately 2.5 miles north of Cape Henlopen, DE, includes areas traditionally used by vessels for anchoring, and is in naturally deep water with charted depths between 50 and 77 feet.
Anchorage C – Cape Henlopen is notionally located in the Atlantic Ocean approximately 9.4 miles east of the Delaware coast and is in naturally deep water with charted depths between 41 and 85 feet. The anchorage grounds includes areas anticipated to be used by vessels for anchoring once offshore wind energy areas are developed.
Anchorage D – Indian River is notionally located in the Atlantic Ocean beginning approximately 6 miles east of the Delaware coast, includes areas traditionally used by vessels for anchoring, and is in naturally deep water with charted depths between 40 and 85 feet. The frequency of vessels using the anchorage grounds is anticipated to increase once offshore wind energy areas are developed.
2. USCG Proposed Lower Chesapeake Bay Anchorages
This layer contains the outline of two proposed anchorage grounds to be added to the anchorage grounds of 33 CFR 110.168 for Hampton Roads, Virginia and adjacent waters. 2. USCG Chesapeake Bay PARS Study Area
The Coast Guard is conducting a Port Access Route Study (PARS) to determine whether a Shipping Safety Fairway (“Fairway”) and/or routing measures should be established in conjunction with implementation of recommendations of the Atlantic Coast Port Access Study (ACPARS) in the approaches to the Chesapeake Bay, Virginia. This PARS will consider whether existing or additional regulations and routing measures are necessary to improve navigation safety due to factors such as planned or potential offshore development, current port capabilities and planned improvements, increased vessel traffic, changing vessel traffic patterns, weather conditions, or navigational difficulty.
The Fifth Coast Guard District and Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads will conduct this PARS. The study may take 12 months or more to complete. The study area extends approximately 220 nautical miles seaward of the Chesapeake Bay, between Ocean City, MD and Cape Hatteras, NC.
